Washington DC, April 17, 2008, Dr. Omar Atiq Chairperson of AMPI joined a an American Muslim delegation invited to meet the ‘Holy Father’, the spiritual leader of a fifth of the world’s population, during his first visit to the United States. Besides Muslims, others paying respect included Jews, Hindus, Jains and Buddhists.
The opportunity provided fertile ground for a worthwhile discussion among the participants about religious freedom, inter-religious dialogue and tolerance and acceptance of other beliefs in furtherance of world peace. The congruence of views on addressing many contentious matters was encouraging. This meeting took place at the John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, D.C.
