July 28th, 2006: The American Muslim Peace Initiative (AMPI) condemns the attack by an individual claiming to be an American Muslim on the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. This murderous action has led to the death of an innocent person and it has caused serious injuries to multiple others.
We condemn such senseless violence at any place, let alone a religious and community institution, and offer sincere condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured. We must do everything in our power to prevent the current conflict in the Middle East from being transplanted to our country. We foresee the good relationship between the American Muslims and the Jewish Americans serving as a mechanism to encourage peace in the Middle East rather than the other way around.
AMPI condemns hate speech and hate-based activities in all forms, and urges all fellow Americans not to tolerate such activities in their midst. We also urge local, state, and national law enforcement authorities to step up security measures at synagogues, mosques and other religious and community institutions of both faiths at this time.
